Irish Surname Search NEESON
Of Irish Gaelic in origin. It is found it in the Hearth Money Rolls (1659 to 1665) of both Tyrone and Monaghan as an "0" name (O'Neason). Family tradition derives it from a variant of Mag Aonghusa (Mac Gennis) Mac Aonghusa, which is often anglicized MacNeece. Neeson is found almost exclusively in nort-east Ulster.
